Musée Valenciennes La Coupole

Built in the early 20th century, the Valenciennes Museum belongs to the generation of Fine Arts palaces erected during the Third Republic: an extremely spacious and monumental building, beautifully emphasizing a prestigious collection. One of the major vestiges of World War 2 in Europe, it is also a History and Remembrance Centre. Fully presented in four languages: French, English, Dutch and German.

A visit to the In Flanders Fields interactive museum will take you back to the Great War (1914-18). Within the Fine Arts department you will see Flemish and Dutch 17th century paintings as well as works by the main French painters: Ingres, Claudel, Rodin, Bourdelle, Utrillo, etc.

Situated in Le Cateau-Cambrésis, the Matisse Museum was founded 50 years ago by Matisse himself in the very town where he was born on 31 December 1869. Each first September week-end, Lille turns into a huge bargain-hunting arena: it is the biggest flea market in Europe and undoubtedly one of the best-known venues in France and beyond the French borders.
